  10.        This release note describes patch SG668 to IRIX 5.3.

  14.        This patch contains bug fixes for all platforms.

  19.        This patch contains bug fixes for the X server (version
  20.        1021572033) on a system running IRIX 5.3.  The software
  21.        cannot be installed on other configurations.

  25.        This patch contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
  26.        5.3.  Bug numbers from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system
  27.        are included for reference.

  29.           +o XmbufGetScreenInfo() returns information for all
  30.             visuals on the specified screen, even if some of those
  31.             visuals are not supported for Multibuffering.  Also,
  32.             the maximum number of buffers is always returned as
  33.             zero.  (Bug #263224)
  34.  
  35.             With this patch installed, only visuals that support
  36.             Multibuffering will be reported; the maximum number of
  37.             buffers for those visuals will be reported as two (2),
  38.             because hardware double buffering support is utilized.
  39.  
  40.           +o Input devices may kill the server during
  41.             initialization.  (Bug #173223)
  42.  
  43.             Patch 665 fixes a class of kernel crash that occurs
  44.             under very similar circumstances.  Both patches should
  45.             be installed to fix this problem.
  46.  
  47.           +o XReadDisplay does not work correctly for GR1, GT, GTX,
  48.             LG1, or VGX graphics options.  (Bug #281507)
  49.  
  50.           +o Client programs get a BadValue error if they do a
  51.             read/modify/write of an event mask of an OpenGL window
  52.             with soft buffers.  (Bug #289328)

  85.        Because you want to install only the patches for problems
  86.        you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
  87.        default.  After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed
  88.        in this patch (see Section 1.3), determine the patches that
  89.        meet your specific needs.

  91.        If, after reading Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of these release
  92.        notes, you are unsure whether your hardware and software
  93.        meet the requirements for installing a particular patch, run
  94.        _i_n_s_t.  The _i_n_s_t program does not allow you to install
  95.        patches that are incompatible with your hardware or
  96.        software.

  98.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  99.        software product.  Follow the instructions in your _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
  100.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot
  101.        form of the software installation tools.

  103.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  105.          1.  At the Inst> prompt, type

  116.              incompatible.  (The installation tools reject an
  117.              installation request if an incompatibility is
  118.              detected.)  If this occurs, you must deselect one of

  149.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you

  151.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  152.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.
